Special studies of contemporary media and their contents. Emphasis on the analysis of emerging issues in content production, reception and media effects. Focus on the critical methods used to examine such issues. Consideration of how particular methods may be applied in international as well as American media contexts. Prerequisite: SMAD 301 ; for non-majors: admission to the minor in film studies or, when taken abroad, the minor in British Communication and Media, or permission of the instructor.
