HIST 270. Modern Middle East 3.00 The class is organized to address state formation processes in the world region located between the Nile and Indus rivers from the early sixteenth to the late twentieth century. The primary foci will be transitions between imperial, colonial, and national political expressions in Egypt, Iran, the Ottoman Empire/Turkey, and Palestine/Israel. The course will also engage other areas and issues including economic and social policies and practices in the Mughal Empire and modern Afghanistan.
