The Master of Education degree (M.Ed.) in Education with a concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) provides current licensed teachers with the coursework to take the ESOL Praxis II assessment to obtain licensure in Prek-12 English as a Second Language (ESL). This program provides advanced preparation for supporting and advocating for multilingual learners and their families in a variety of educational contexts. Additionally, this program may enable candidates to teach English as a foreign language in other countries.
Admission Requirements
All criteria are considered when reviewing candidates for admission to this Master of Education degree program. However, no one criterion will be the sole reason for lack of admission to the program. Criteria include:
- Transcripts of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
- An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Two professional letters of recommendation
- Professional resume
- Personal essay: 2-page written statement describing applicant’s interest and/or experiences in the field of TESOL and how this program is relevant to their future professional goals and aspirations.

Comprehensive Examinations
In addition to required coursework, students are expected to develop a portfolio that is evaluated by the faculty and serves as the student’s comprehensive examination.
