The professional minor in business German is intended for students who wish to consolidate and improve their knowledge of German in the areas of business and economics. The main aim of the minor is to teach students German commercial and trade vocabulary and customs in conjunction with practice in commercial communication, including letter writing, interviews, and interpretation in German. Students acquire a greater knowledge of German as well as a deeper understanding of German society in its historical, political, and economic contexts. This includes investigations into aspects of the European Union, globalization, immigration, the environment, family policies, and current affairs.

The minor comprises two linguistic components, one translation component, one culture component, and two profession-specific linguistic components.
