Minor Requirements
This minor provides students with the opportunity to gain knowledge and applied experiences to become competent sport coaches who have the tools to create a safe, fair and positive sport environment and promote holistic athlete development. The Coaching Education minor is accredited by the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE) as a Level 3 coaching education program and is aligned with the National Standards for Sport Coaches.
To enroll in the internship, students must:
- Successfully complete all of the other minor courses with a minimum grade of a “C”;
- Complete the Coaching Principles course through Human Kinetics and earn certification (part of KIN 205 );
- Present evidence of First Aid/CPR/AED certification, coaching certification in a particular sport, Child Abuse & Neglect training certification, and SafeSport certification or similar training; and
- Have an overall GPA of 2.0 or above.
For successful completion of the minor, students must earn a minimum grade of a “C” in each of the six courses and a “satisfactory” in the internship (KIN 473 ).
