The minor in African, African American and Diaspora Studies (AAAD) broadens students’ world perspectives by enhancing their understanding of the peoples, identities and institutions of Africa and the African Diaspora. The AAAD program employs interdisciplinary approaches to analyze Africa and the African Diaspora in a global context. Courses taken to fulfill program requirements are drawn from several departments in the humanities, social sciences and sciences. Students in the program will examine the key disciplines, concepts, methods and topics in African, African American and Diaspora studies.
The AAAD minor is open to all JMU undergraduate students. Courses taken to complete the minor may also be used to satisfy the student’s major, with the permission of the major advisor, as well as General Education requirements.
The AAAD minor requires:
- Successful completion of 19 credit hours according to the requirements listed below.
- No more than nine hours from a single discipline.
