Computational analytics utilizes numerical techniques, programming, and tools from applied mathematics to analyze and search for optimal solutions to real-world problems. In the modern world, the demand for computational skills and analytical abilities far surpasses the supply. The minor in computational analytics is designed for students who want to gain such expertise. This minor prepares students to solve complex problems using sound mathematical reasoning, quantitative skills, and hands-on experience in computer programming. The minor also provides an opportunity to engage with fields currently in great demand such as operations research, mathematics of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.

The minor in computational analytics is open to any major. Only credits from MATH 231 -MATH 232 MATH 235  and MATH 236  may be used to double-count with the minor in mathematics. A student wishing to obtain both minors must fulfill a separate set of courses other than those used for the computational analytics minor for the additional 10 credits needed for the mathematics minor. The computational analytics minor is available to students majoring in mathematics or statistics but courses taken for the computational analytics minor cannot double count with courses beyond the core for the mathematics or statistics major.  For example, a mathematics major cannot double count courses taken to fulfill the additional 12 credit hours for the math major (beyond the core) with courses taken to satisfy the six elective credits in the computational analytics minor.  A statistics major may double count the required courses in the computational analytics minor toward the statistics major.

Required Courses: 8 Credit Hours

Choose one of the following: 4-6 Credit Hours

Restricted Electives: 6 Credit Hours

Choose two of the following courses:

Total: 18-20 Credit Hours

These courses may require prerequisites that are not required in the minor.
