Coaching Education Minor

Minor Requirements

This minor provides students with the opportunity to gain foundational knowledge and applied experiences to become competent sport coaches who have the tools to create a safe, fair and positive sport environment and promote holistic athlete development. The program complies with the National Standards for Sport Coaches and guidelines required by the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Education. To enroll in the internship, students must:

  • Successfully complete all of the other minor courses with a minimum of a “C”;
  • Complete the Coaching Principles course through Human Kinetics and earn certification (part of KIN 205);
  • Present evidence of First Aid/CPR/AED certification, coaching certification in a particular sport, Child Abuse & Neglect training certification, and SafeSport certification or similar training; and
  • Have an overall GPA of 2.0 or above.

For successful completion of the minor, students must earn a minimum grade of a “C” in each of the six courses and a “satisfactory” in the internship (KIN 473).
