This course addresses and applies fundamental mechanics topics to the analysis of mechanical components as well as conventions associated with the design of mechanical components. Topics include fatigue life, thermal expansion and stress concentrations. Mechanical components addressed include pressure vessels, springs, gears, bearings, mechanical drive systems and threaded fasteners. Conventions associated with typical assemblies, including threaded fasteners and fits, are included. Prerequisite(s): Minimum grade of “C-” in ENGR 314 .
