SMAD 371. Narrative Media Studies


Credits 3.00 PeopleSoft Course ID 005430 Grading Basis GRD

This course is the study of narrative theories that focus on the forms and effects of storytelling in cinema and television. Emphasis is placed on how such theories explain the cultural impact and personal utility of narrative contents in everyday life. Students will consider “the hero’s journey” in a variety of film genres and TV formats. Prerequisite(s): For SMAD majors: junior or senior standing: SMAD 201 , SMAD 202 , SMAD 203 , and SMAD 204 ; and one of SMAD 301  or SMAD 301L . For non-SMAD majors: junior or senior film studies minors only; or permission of instructor.
