PHIL 320. Inductive Logic

Introduction to inductive logic and the philosophical problems it raises. Topics discussed: the traditional problem of induction, the Goodman paradox and the new riddle of induction, the probability calculus and kinds of probability, Mill’s methods of experimental inquiry and the nature of causality, abduction (inference to the best explanation) and confirmation theory.
