REL 387. Buddhist Literature and Liberation 3.00
Focused on the interpretation of Buddhist texts, this course explores how Buddhists have envisioned literary activity as part of a path to spiritual liberation. Students read and analyze a variety of literary genres, from hagiography to haiku; investigate the ritual dimensions of scribing and printing Buddhist scriptures; and apply contemplative disciplines to creative writing assignments.
