The University Recreation (UREC) team is here to motivate and support students to live well-balanced and active lives. UREC is located centrally on campus and JMU's outdoor recreation facility, University Park (UPARK), is located adjacent to the JMU Arboretum. Students only need their JACard or UREC App to enter these facilities, as membership is included with student fees.
UREC is a vast recreation center with gyms, courts, tracks, aquatic areas and fitness spaces, as well as an equipment center that provides sporting equipment and locker and towel services. UREC also features climbing and bouldering walls, a demonstration kitchen, a café, massage therapy rooms, a meditation studio, personal training, fitness assessment, nutrition counseling, small group training, bike repair and athletic training. UPARK has an open event lawn, tennis, sand volleyball and basketball courts, a sports turf, pavilion, disc golf course, and TEAM Challenge Course.
UREC provides programs and services that promote healthy lifestyles while providing opportunities to develop fitness and wellness habits in the areas of adventure, aquatics, fitness, group exercise, intramural sports, sports clubs, nutrition, safety and wellness.
Online registration is available and programs with fees can also be registered for in-person at UREC using FLEX. Students can host immediate family members of all ages for free during family hours, which are between 6pm Friday and 6pm Sunday. Students can also purchase up to two passes for guests ages 16 and up during all operational hours.
