The Title IX Office participates in the coordination of JMU’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq.), university policies 1340, 1346, and 1324, and other applicable federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex. JMU's prohibition of discrimination on the basis of sex includes dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, stalking, and non-consensual relationships as defined in Policy 1340 and Policy 1346.

The Title IX Office is responsible for receiving and responding to reports of misconduct as defined in Policy 1340 and Policy 1346; offering supportive measures and information about confidential on- and off-campus resources for individuals involved in a report of misconduct; investigating formal complaints in a fair and impartial manner; and monitoring reports for patterns or systemic problems. The Title IX Office also provides support for students experiencing pregnancy and related conditions.

The responsibility for overall coordination, monitoring and information dissemination about JMU's Title IX program is assigned to the Title IX Coordinator.
