Health Services Administration, B.S.
Program Description
The program in health services administration prepares students for entry-level managerial, administrative and staff positions in various health organizations including hospitals, health systems, managed care organizations, health insurance companies, retirement and long-term care facilities, ambulatory care organizations, physician practices, public health facilities, and governmental offices. In addition, the program provides the foundation for graduate studies in health administration and related fields. The health services administration program is a Full Certified undergraduate program by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).
Admission Requirements and Minimum Grades
Any student admitted to JMU can declare Health Services Administration as their major and enroll in prerequisite courses. However, to progress in the major beyond the prerequisite courses, students must apply and be admitted to the program.
Students wishing to be admitted to the health services administration program at JMU must successfully complete the prerequisite courses listed below. To be eligible to apply, students must
- have completed or be enrolled in the prerequisite courses listed below at the time of application and receive a minimum grade of "C-".
- submit a personal statement addressing
- the student's understanding of the profession of health administration
- volunteer or other experience with health care services
- personal goals for a career in health services administration.
Applications are due September 15 for spring semester admission or February 15 for fall semester admission. Specific application requirements may be found on the health services administration program website.

The General Education program contains a set of requirements each student must fulfill. Some credits may be fulfilled by courses required within the major.

Students automatically meet the B.S. quantitative and scientific literacy requirements by completing the major requirements. No more than 30 hours may be taken in the College of Business.
Prerequisites
