Program Description

This minor provides students with the opportunity to gain knowledge and applied experiences to become competent sport coaches who have the tools to create a safe, fair and positive sport environment and promote holistic athlete development. The Coaching Education minor is accredited by the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE) and is aligned with the National Standards for Sport Coaches.

Minor Requirements

For successful completion of the minor, students must complete all courses in the minor and have an overall minor GPA of 2.0 or above.

To enroll in the internship, students must:

• Successfully complete all other minor courses;
• Complete the Coaching Principles course through Human Kinetics and earn certification (part of KIN 205);
• Present evidence of First Aid/CPR/AED certification, coaching certification in a particular sport, Child Abuse & Neglect training certification, and SafeSport certification or similar training; and
• Have a cumulative minor GPA of 2.0 or above.
