Physical and Health Education Teacher Education, M.A.

The M.A. in Physical and Health Education Teacher Education program is for licensed teachers who wish to switch to or add physical and health education as a content area or enhance their training in physical and health education. The program focuses on preparing and enhancing physical and health educators’ professional and pedagogical knowledge. The M.A. program includes two concentrations to address the demand for licensed educators. The curriculum and assessment concentration adds additional study in the areas of designing curriculum and evidence-based assessment. The adapted physical education concentration will prepare students to work with students with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities.

Admission Requirements

  • Transcripts demonstrating a bachelor’s degree was earned with a minimum 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale.
  • A resume.
  • A current U.S.-based teaching license.
  • Personal statement.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Applicants who have not earned a baccalaureate degree in the U.S. must also meet university requirements for international-student admission which includes submission of academic transcripts or credential evaluations in English and proof of English proficiency.

Application Deadline

Students may begin this program during the summer or fall terms. Students are admitted on a rolling basis; however, students are encouraged to apply by November to start during the summer and March to start during the fall term. Applications must be received no later than six weeks prior to the term students would like to begin the program.

Concentrations: 12 Credit Hours


Students must complete at least one concentration.

Students select 6 credit hours in consultation with the program director.
