The minor in chemistry is designed for students majoring in a STEM field who want to gain additional technical competencies in chemistry. The chemistry minor is not open to students majoring in chemistry or biophysical chemistry.

The requirements for a minor in chemistry are 24 credit hours in chemistry, distributed as follows:

General Chemistry: 8 Credit Hours

CHEM 131. General Chemistry I [C3PP] Credits: 3.00
CHEM 132. General Chemistry II Credits: 3.00
CHEM 131L. General Chemistry Laboratory [C3L] Credits: 1.00
CHEM 132L. General Chemistry Laboratory Credits: 1.00

Organic Chemistry: 4-8 Credit Hours

Select one of the following sets of courses:

CHEM 241. Organic Chemistry I Credits: 3.00 and
CHEM 241L. Concepts of Organic Chemistry Laboratory Credits: 1.00
or
CHEM 241. Organic Chemistry I 3.00 and
CHEM 242. Organic Chemistry II Credits: 3.00 and
CHEM 242L. Organic Chemistry Laboratory Credits: 2.00

Physical Chemistry: 5 Credit Hours

Select one of the following sets of courses:

CHEM 331. Physical Chemistry I Credits: 3.00 and
CHEM 336L. Applied Physical Chemistry Laboratory Credits: 2.00
or
CHEM 432. Physical Chemistry II Credits: 3.00 and
CHEM 438L. Physical Chemistry Laboratory Credits: 2.00

Analytical Chemistry: 4 Credit Hours

CHEM 351. Analytical Chemistry Credits: 4.00

Electives: 3 Credit Hours

An approved CHEM elective Credits: 3.00

Additional Information

In order to complete this minor, prerequisite courses in mathematics and physics are required. These courses collectively fulfill the nine-credit approved technical elective package for the Bachelor of Science in Engineering .
