Program Description
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a major in statistics to meet the needs of both the public and the private sectors for graduates with degrees in statistics. Students may choose either a standard statistics major or a statistics major with a data science concentration. The required courses provide a balance of applications and theory, which allows students to prepare for immediate employment or graduate studies by proper selection of the program electives. 2 The General Education program contains a set of requirements each student must fulfill. Some requirements may be fulfilled by courses within the major. The quantitative requirement is also met by courses within the major and not included in the 120 credit hour total.
Major Requirements
Core Requirements for Statistics Majors: 22 Credit Hours
Students must complete 22 core credit hours and 22-24 additional credit hours for the B.S. in Statistics. Students interested in pursuing graduate studies in statistics are strongly encouraged to double-major in statistics and mathematics.

1 MATH 220 with a minimum grade of B- may be substituted for MATH 229 if the student received credit for MATH 220 before declaring a statistics major.
