Theatre Teaching Licensure


In addition to general education  (including WRTC 103 ) and theatre major requirements, students desiring PK-12 licensure in theatre must complete additional course work in education, psychology and theatre. It is necessary to be admitted to the teacher education program prior to enrolling in professional education courses. For a complete description of admission and retention policies and procedures for teacher education, refer to the College of Education .

Students seeking licensure are encouraged to consult regularly with the theatre education program advisor. The undergraduate degree leading to licensure must include the following minimum requirements in theatre:

  • Theatre education and teaching artistry concentration requirements (15 credits)
  • All theatre major core requirements (8 credits)
  • All theatre major non-concentration requirements (28 credits)
  • Directing (i.e., THEA 355 ) must be taken to fulfill the major’s “performance requirement” (3 credits)

Theatre Education and Teaching Artistry Concentration 


Students who complete the theatre education and teaching artistry concentration are able to apply for a PreK-12 teaching licensure in theatre. This concentration requires 15 THEA credits.
