Survey of painting and sculpture in Britain (1530-1860) concentrating on 18th/19th-century painting. British art is viewed in the context of European civilization. Weekly visits to London museums including the Portrait Gallery, Sir John Soane’s House, the Wallace Collection and the Tate Gallery.

 Satisfies General Education Cluster Two, Group II. Included in the Incoming First Year program.

This course is a survey of European history covering the late-imperial era, the world wars, the Cold War and the dynamics of European integration. WRTC 103. Rhetorical Reading and Writing [C1W]

Rhetorical Reading and Writing teaches students how to write effectively in situations they have not yet encountered. By practicing reading and writing as rhetorical activities, students learn how to explore and research topics; design writing for diverse audiences, purposes and occasions; and use feedback to improve their writing. WRTC 103 fulfills the General Education Cluster One writing requirement and is a prerequisite for all WRTC courses numbered 200 or above. May be used for general education credit. May not be used for major credit.
