Teaching Licensure
Students interested in becoming secondary social studies teachers have their choice of a 5-year program (with MAT) or a 4-year program. Either can be done with the history major, choosing the teacher education concentration, an Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (ISS) minor, and either a major in secondary education (4-year program) or a minor in pre-professional secondary education (4-year program).
Students in this program must also be admitted to the College of Education. It is critical that students seeking licensure consult regularly with their education adviser, their ISS adviser, and their major adviser to support their progression through the programs. For a full description of the requirements see the teaching history section of the history department website.
