Health Services Administration, B.S.


Deadline for Change or Declaration of Majors

Any student admitted to JMU can declare Health Services Administration as his/her major and enroll in prerequisite courses. However, to progress in the major beyond the prerequisite courses, students must apply and be admitted to the program.

Students wishing to be admitted to the health services administration program at JMU may apply in the spring of their sophomore year or upon completion of the prerequisite courses. Applications are due September 15 for spring semester admission or February 15 for fall semester admission. Specific application requirements may be found on the health services administration program website (http://healthprof.jmu.edu/hsa/)

Degree and Major Requirements

The Department of Health Professions offers the following degrees: Bachelor of Science in Dietetics , Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration, Master of Science in Athletic Training, Master of Occupational Therapy and Master of Physician Assistant Studies.

Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration 

The program in health services administration prepares students for entry-level administrative positions, and staff positions requiring administrative skills, in various health organizations including hospitals, hospital systems, managed care organizations, retirement and long-term care facilities, ambulatory care organizations, physician practices and public health facilities. In addition, the program provides the foundation for graduate study in health administration and related fields. The health services administration program is approved as a Full Certified undergraduate program by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).

Any student admitted to JMU can declare health services administration as his/her major and enroll in prerequisite courses. However, to progress in the major beyond the prerequisite courses, students must apply and be admitted to the program. To be eligible to apply, students must have completed or be enrolled in the following prerequisite courses at the time of application and receive a grade of “C-” or better:

Upon completion of all JMU and program requirements, the student is awarded the B.S. in Health Services Administration.

No more than 30 hours may be taken in the College of Business
