Business Economics, B.B.A.

Degree and Major Requirements


Economics / Business Economics majors choose from a B.A., B.S. or B.B.A. degree. The B.A. and B.S. degrees are traditional liberal arts degrees that lead to a variety of career and graduate school options; the B.B.A. is designed to prepare students for careers in business.

Degree Requirements


The B.B.A. degree in business economics requires a minimum of 120 credit hours of undergraduate work.

The minimum requirement for a B.B.A. degree in business economics is 33 credit hours of economics including 18 credit hours of core courses and 15 credit hours of electives. B.B.A. students also complete the core business requirements as well as complete the General Education  program.

  • Electives 6-7 Credit Hours

1 Up to seven credit hours of core requirements in economics and calculus may also be taken for General Education  credit. Students who take the General Education  packages and courses recommended by the College of Business  will have only 39 credit hours of additional B.B.A. core requirements.
2 The General Education  program contains a set of requirements each student must fulfill. The number of credit hours necessary to fulfill these requirements may vary.

Students need to complete ECON 331 , ECON 332  and ECON 385  with a grade of "C" or better.

B.B.A. Core Component


B.B.A. Lower-Level Core Component


B.B.A. majors must complete all of the B.B.A. core components as part of their degree program. The following courses comprise the B.B.A. Lower-Level Core Component:

1 MATH 220  may be substituted for COB 191 .
2 COB 191  or equivalent and MATH 205  or equivalent are prerequisites for COB 291 .
3 Calculus is required but not used in calculating the B.B.A. core GPA. MATH 235  is preferred for Economics and Finance majors. 
4 COB 241  must be taken before COB 242 .
5 COB 242  is a prerequisite for COB 300 but is not used in calculating the B.B.A. core GPA.
6 All four COB 300 courses must be taken during the same semester.
7 COB 300 is a prerequisite or corequisite for COB 318 . COB 318  is a prerequisite for COB 487  and BLAW 497 .
8 COB 487  must be taken during the senior year.

Recommended Schedule for B.B.A. in Business Economics Majors


First Two Years


During the first two years, students should complete:

The 30-31 hour, lower-division B.B.A. core curriculum (failing to complete these courses before the first semester of the junior year could delay admission to the degree program and enrollment in COB 300A /COB 300B /COB 300C /COB 300D ).

Third and Fourth Years


B.B.A. business economics majors should take COB 300A , COB 300B , COB 300C , COB 300D  before the spring semester of their junior year and complete ECON 331 , ECON 332 , and preferably ECON 385  by the end of their junior year.

While most majors will complete the 400-level requirements in economics during their senior year, students may take a 400-level course during their junior year if the prerequisite for the course has been met. ECON 488  should be taken during the senior year.
