BIO 346. Laboratory in Bacterial Pathogenomics Credits 2.00 PeopleSoft Course ID 013766
A course-based-research laboratory course. Students isolate pathogenic bacteria from environmental samples, identify and characterize them, and sequence their whole genomes. Students learn the basics of microbial genomics, including genome assembly, annotation and comparative genomics methods to study mobile genetic elements, virulence, antibiotic resistance, etc. They also learn how these methods are used in the epidemiological tracking of pathogens. Prerequisite(s): “C” or better in BIO 245 /BIO 245L .
