HIST 468. The Roman Empire

History 468 covers the political, military, social, economic and intellectual history of the Roman Empire from its establishment ca 30 BC to the final division of the Empire into eastern and western halves in AD 395 at the death of Theodosius I. The course is a mixture of lectures and discussions of primary sources. Students will read selections from important authors such as Tacitus, Pliny the Younger, Cassius Dio and Ammianus Marcellinus in addition to scholarly monographs. Prerequisite(s):
