This course explores nursing informatics and technology applications in health care. Emphasis is on preparing entry level nurses with core nursing informatics competencies. A major theme is the use of information systems and technologies to improve the quality and safety of patient care in a changing health care environment. Students will develop their nursing informatics knowledge and skills through reading, discussions, exploration and utilization of electronic modalities. Students will analyze, assess and present individually an IHI Quality Assessment of a healthcare site. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing major and honors program.
