HIST 428. American Workers in the Industrial Age, 1877-1948 3.00 This seminar examines what contemporaries called the Labor Problem, from the strikes of 1877 to the accord between GM and the UAW in 1948. It explores the impact of industrialization, race and gender, consumerism, the New Deal and two world wars on the lives of American workers and their unions. Prerequisite: HIST 395 or permission of the instructor.
