HIST 457. Comparative Empires 3.00 Crosslisted with POSC 457
Comparative empires is an examination of imperialism from 1450 to the present. Focusing on no less than four empires, the course will apply a variety of theoretical approaches in a series of case studies with at least one empire from the period of exploration and one from 1919 to the present. Students will employ approaches from history, political science, economics and geography as they search for a deeper understanding of each case study and the broader concept of empire. Prerequisite: HIST 395 or permission of instructor. Corequisite: MSSE 470H.
