Regardless of instructional setting, special education teachers will likely come in contact with students with complex medical challenges related to disability. This course focuses on students with multiple disabilities, as these students are likely to require medical and technological interventions in schools. The course focuses on typical development and application of this knowledge for students with significant disabilities. It also focuses on specific disabilities and the overlay of sensory impairments, medical needs and technological needs related to those disabilities. Finally, this course focuses on planning for instruction and collaborating with caregivers and team members of all backgrounds in order to meet the complex needs of these students.
