PORT 101 Elementary Portuguese I
Credits 3-4 Grading Basis Graded
The fundamentals of Portuguese through listening, speaking, reading and writing. Practice in pronunciation and development of comprehension. One hour's work a week in the language laboratory. Students will receive no credit for the course if they have had two or more years of the language in high school.
PORT 102 Elementary Portuguese II
Credits 3-4 Grading Basis Graded
The fundamentals of Portuguese through a higher level of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Practice in pronunciation and development of comprehension. One hour's work a week in the language laboratory. Students will receive no credit for the course if they have had two or more years of the language in high school.
Prerequisites: PORT 101.
PORT 231 Intermediate Portuguese I
Credits 3 Grading Basis Graded
A thorough review of first year grammar and vocabulary building. Conversation, composition and readings will be chosen to reach competency at the lower intermediate level Portuguese.
Prerequisites: PORT 102 or by permission of the instructor.
PORT 232 Intermediate Portuguese II
Credits 3 Grading Basis Graded
A thorough review of PORT 231 grammar and vocabulary building. Conversation, composition and readings will be chosen to reach competency at the advance intermediate level.
Prerequisites: PORT 231 or by permission of the instructor.
PORT 300 Portuguese Grammar and Communication
Credits 3 Grading Basis Graded
Intensive training in grammatical structures and their application to oral and written communication. Instruction is in Portuguese. Fulfills the College of Arts and Letters writing-intensive requirement for possible International Affairs majors and/or IBUS majors.
Prerequisites: PORT 232 or by permission of the instructor.
PORT 320 Portuguese Oral and Written Communication
Credits 3 Grading Basis Graded
Intensive training in the use of modern, everyday Portuguese with emphasis on conversation and composition. Readings in Portuguese will provide a context for discussion and writing.
Prerequisites: PORT 300.
PORT 490 Special Topics in Portuguese
Credits 1-4 Grading Basis Graded
Special topics or independent studies in Portuguese.
