ISAT 433. Foundations of Lean and Six Sigma

This course addresses the questions: What is lean?  What is six sigma?  How are they different, why do many organizations combine them and how should they be applied for continuous improvement?  Lean topics include toyota production system, hoshin kanri, lean culture, reducing waste and process stability.  Six Sigma topics include project selection, deployment, forming teams, performance measures and methodologies (e.g. define, measure, analyze, improve control and define, measure, analyze, design and verify). Prerequisite: ISAT 330  or admission to the global supply chain management minor.
