GEOG 348. Indigenous Geographies

This course introduces indigenous geographic representations. Topics include territorial sovereignty, traditional resource use, sustainable development and protection of sacred sites. Students will explore the central geographic practice of cartography, which has taken on new meaning as cultural identification for Indigenous peoples. The use of new technologies to represent traditional understandings of Earth is also explored. Prerequisite: GEOG 290 , GEOG 308  or permission of instructor.
